Position: Groundskeeper

Reports to: Superintendent

Type of Employment: Seasonal

Overtime/Weekends: Yes/Yes

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Groundskeepers, under supervision of the Superintendent, perform work involving the use of large and small equipment, including tractors, mowers, loaders, chainsaws, weed eaters and other maintenance equipment; perform routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance; and do semi-skilled grounds construction and maintenance work. Each groundskeeper may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of several designated tasks or areas on the golf course and does related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have a valid West Virginia Driver’s License
Basic knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of tractors and other motorized equipment
Should be familiar with the game of golf
Must be able to communicate effectively with other groundskeeper’s
Must be self-motivated
Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction and maintenance work
Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment
Ability to work early morning hours and alternate weekend mornings

SPECIAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to safely lift 75 pounds

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mows greens, aprons, fairways, roughs, tees, and other areas.
Operates mowers and string trimmers around trees, fence lines, banks, and hillsides; edges cart paths; rakes, and maintains sand bunkers.
Operates top dressers, Sand Pro, Gator, tractor, and finish mowers.
Aerifies greens, verticuts tees and greens, spikes greens, operates spray rigs and spreaders, operates portable pumps, and operates other equipment as directed.
Ensures that the equipment is refilled with fuel and oil daily; cleans equipment daily, and reports equipment problems or failures to the Superintendent.
Returns all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility and cleans the maintenance area.
Set tee markers and cups on greens as directed; maintain ball washers; tee towels and flags when needed; removes debris; sands and seeds tee and drop area divots.
Water tees, greens and fairways; operates irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water.
Repairs the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed.
