A Guide for Winter

In the winter months, the average high temperature is 34° F at Alpine Lake Resort.

With the lake as the center of the resort, there isn’t a bad view. The water may be frozen — and please do not go out on the ice — but the expanse generates a snow-globe-like experience. The wet and sometimes icy weather does typically require a 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle to navigate the Alpine Lake roads but nothing compares to a snowy-silent night.

What To Wear

The dress throughout the year encourages casual attire but don’t forget your winter gloves. Alpine Lake Resort sees our lowest temperatures in the winter so be sure to pack layers. Start with cotton — a universally flattering and versitile option. Also, leather gloves or outerwear will form to you and last for years and is great protection from the elements. Wool pieces (note: socks!) will keep you warm.

Bring a winter coat and ski pants to venture out and sled-ride, cross-country ski or get outside to hike.

If you forgot something for your stay, we have a small supply of items at our front desk. We also have a gift and souvenir shop located in the lobby of the Lodge. If you need something more, both Kingwood, WV and Oakland, MD have Wal-Mart stores available.
